Sphinx being known as a ancient creatures that possess great magical powers and influence in the lives of the people from Greek, Egypt, Burma, India, and Sri Lanka and several other countries where different stories and versions can be found related to this ravenous creature.

Greek Sphinx.

In Greek, sphinx depicted as a winged creature in a shape of half animal-half woman with furious, merciless and treacherous attributes. the legends foretold Sphinx loves giving riddles for people whom come across it's path. if the humans give the right answers, Sphinx will be pleased and released them but if the humans answered the riddles wrong, Sphinx will attack and eat them. this legend makes sphinx look evil and merciless but in same time, well known by people for it's wisdom and challenging behavior.

Egypt Sphinx.

Egypt describe Sphinx as a winged, half animal but with manly look and appearance. the head of the sphinx is made from Pharaoh and the body is the body of a male lion. instead being merciless, Sphinx being known as a powerful god in Egypt whom keep the gates of tombs to protects the dead inside and guarded the secrets within the temples.

the sphinx is the most prominent in the Egyptian mythology compared to Greek mythology, for it plays great role in the culture and belief of Egyptian people. this can be seen in evidence of the world's greatest monument, the Giza pyramid that made of Sphinx shape.

The Asian Sphinx

The sphinx plays a great role in many south east and south Asian countries where its legend is still followed and alive till today, unlike the Greek and Egypt where Sphinx has been remembered and known in the past. The sphinx in Asian cultures has the same identity, like a woman’s head and body of a lion with strong wings and tail.

In India, The sphinx is given the name ‘purushamriga’, a Sanskrit word mean the ‘'man beast”. Its being worshiped till today and believed that purushamriga have powers to take off the sins and evils of a man.

Meanwhile, the Srilankan sphinx is known as the ‘Narashima’. The narashima is from the Buddhist origin and legends, which believed the Narashima is the guardian of the north direction.

In Burma, the sphinx is named as ‘manussiha’. It was created by Buddhist monks to protect new born babies from evils and diseases, where the protection amulets will be carved with the image of manussiha or prayers recited upon it's power in order to secure the newborn.

Although Sphinx presence can never be completely proven, it has been influencing the human culture and belief for centuries already. in addition, Sphinx also has formed the basis of certain religions consisted of the followers whom believes in the power of these creatures and worship them.

from the information above, we has seen each different cultures having the same identity of Sphinx but with different stories and concepts. One of such mythical creatures being known in many different regions is impossible to be just a coincidence, thus bring us to keep wondering if this magnificent creature truly exist.
